Description
The municipality of Zoetermeer is the first municipality in the Netherland that respons to the desire of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment to make parking data publicly available.

Parking data will be available trough an app for smart phones, navigation systems and displays alongside the access roads to the city center.

Zoetermeer uses the SENSIT platform from Nedap, which is a network of wireless parking sensors which detect the vehicle occupancy at every single parking space. The system collects the data and shares that information with third parties. One of these sensors is presented in the picture here below.


Objectives

Make parking data in Zoetermeer available to find quick empty parking spaces to reduce emissions and make the city centers more attractive to visitors.
Inputs

The input in the network is done by the sensor which are placed on each parking spot. (see picture)
Struggels

Sensor have a battery life of 5 years, after this the battery has to be replaced.

Can the system distinguish between a car and leaves?
Outputs

After implementing the sensors and running the software, visitors can find the parking spot sooner. This results in a smooth drive and reduces the emissions of cars which are looking for an empty parking spot.
